On our first day of watching Lost, we found ourselves intrigued by the characters and wanting to continue watching the show. As we watch together, we seem to be invested in different things. Aleah is invested in the actor Ian Somerhalder because she has seen and loved him before in The Vampire Diaries. Katie is invested because she is used to binge watching shows and she recognizes some of the actors from Once Upon A Time. Allison is interested in the relationship between Michael and Walt and watching that develop. Ian is curious about the backstories of the characters and the problems each one has to face. Each of us is getting invested for our own reasons, but invested nevertheless. Having a group to talk things out with proved to further our interest as of day one.

Day two of the Binge led us further into the world of Lost. The island and the characters are coming to life. We love them and we love to hate some of them. Sawyer is an example of a character we all love to hate, except Aleah for some odd reason. He grinds on everyone’s nerves by treating the other characters in the show with rudeness, yet his sarcastic comments keep us interested. His annoying habits and tendencies affect us as if we were present on the island. While we love Kate and Jack even they are getting slightly annoying. Their controlling attitudes remind us all too realistically of people we actually could know. However, we find ourselves truly sympathizing with Charlie. His heartbreak and pain in the show affect us as much as a family member’s issues would. These characters are real to us and they are alive. The characters loved by their fellow characters, we love. The characters annoying all of the other characters, we find ourselves annoyed by. We might as well be on the island since we are mentally anyway. Our group even has friendship bracelets as a result of watching this together.

Day three of the Binge proved to be slightly more challenging for some. Exhaustion was setting in and characters started dying. Aleah cried when Ian Somerhalder, who plays Boone, died in episode 20 and refused to watch the scene he actually died in. After that her interest was gone. She had no desire to finish the show. Katie could still see herself watching the rest of the show after the class ended. Allison said that finishing the show was highly possible and Ian agreed. We took a picture of our friendship bracelets when The Binge ended and departed. We did however grow to enjoy binge watching the show as a group more so than alone. We spent our group binges laughing and making jokes about the show. We also spent time analyzing the characters. Lost was a great show to binge as the characters come to life and it is easy to become “lost” in the fictional universe. The island comes to life in more than one way and it captivated us, even if for some the interest lasted longer than for others.
